In road construction and infrastructure, everything revolves around efficiency, continuity and relieving skilled workers of unnecessary physical strain. At the family business Gebroeders Jansen B.V. from Dongen, this way of thinking is deeply rooted in their DNA. Under their company vision “Samen op weg” — moving forward together — they continuously look for ways to make heavy work lighter and more efficient. When Gebroeders Jansen was looking for a powerful yet compact helper for its asphalt crew, they came to us. The purchase of three SHERPA S50 articulated loaders proved to be exactly the right choice: heavy manual carrying on their projects is now a thing of the past.
Asphalting is precision work on a dynamic job site where space is often limited. “The SHERPA machines are the first to come off the truck and the last to go back on,” explains operator and mechanic Karel van Eijl. Because their asphalt crew has to comply with strict transport weight limits, they were looking for a solution that was compact enough for easy transport, but without compromising on power. Karel explains: “We were bound by weight limits and needed a powerful, compact machine. That is why we chose these compact loaders at the time. This allows us to travel with as little ballast as possible, while still delivering maximum performance.”
Although site supervisor Mo Amgar initially had a healthy dose of scepticism when SHERPA’s Daan Kling arrived for the demo, that doubt disappeared after the very first working day.
Mo is honest about it: “When Daan first came by, I had some doubts because I wasn’t sure whether the machines would be powerful enough.”
Fortunately, those doubts proved unfounded. “We now use them every day and we are very happy with them.”
Benefits of the SHERPA S50 for Gebroeders Jansen B.V.:
At Gebroeders Jansen B.V., they look at day-to-day practice with a sharp eye. This is also reflected in the way technical support is organised. The company has its own skilled technical department. Their team handles first-line service themselves and, where necessary, carries out small, practical modifications to fine-tune the equipment for their specialist asphalt work. The cooperation with our service team is clear and efficient. Only when a technical issue becomes too complex does SHERPA’s service department get involved.
This keeps communication lines short and ensures that a machine is never out of action unnecessarily long.
As a manufacturer, we at SHERPA listen closely to experiences from the field. In the early stages, the team at Gebroeders Jansen B.V. noticed that the machines sometimes responded a little too sharply to steering movements. Because the miniloader articulates powerfully even with a small steering input, for optimum manoeuvrability, this was not always ideal on the asphalt crew. Especially with heavy loads, you do not want the machine to articulate too quickly.
SHERPA’s service technicians addressed this properly by slightly reducing the hydraulic response in the software. “If you take it easy now, you can fill the bucket effortlessly without losing any material,” says a satisfied Karel.
Ultimately, the greatest benefit of our joint efforts lies in the comfort of the people working on the road. Where residual material previously had to be cleared away manually with a wheelbarrow, the S50 now pushes the work aside in a single movement. When asked how much work this saves in practice, Karel is clear: “For a job like this, we used to have to make about five wheelbarrow trips. Now we scoop it up once with the SHERPA and it’s done. It simply saves a huge amount of carrying. And carrying is something you shouldn’t be doing. That’s what machines are for.”
We are proud that our SHERPA S50 articulated loaders are a trusted part of the Gebroeders Jansen B.V. team every single day, helping us build a more efficient and healthier infrastructure together.
